Co-Manager's Comment
Despite being without a number of players, we played well and were
unlucky not to have kept the score line closer. The departure of Smith
with 10 minutes to go saw us lose 2 goals with his replacement being out
of sorts! Hopefully, we can take something on Friday night at Ormlie
versus FSC.
It's coming.......
Top Joe's 3-4 Ashes -
Highland Amateur Cup
On a day of mixed weather conditions, Joe's fell at the first hurdle due
to a lack of discipline again. In what was easily the best performance
of the season, only a couple of errors towards the end of the match
stopped Joe's making it through and it must be noted the Gods do not
always favour the good guys!
Nicky Cowie was again unavailable due to work commitments which meant a
rejig to the team again. Old stager Lowe was thrown up front out of the
way alongside Dumbartonshire's finest dry stone dyker Bollywood. Hutch
was put into midfield and Kev Cowie looked immensely relieved when told
he was returning to defence, however, I think the whole changing room
breathed a collective sigh of relief too! Johns was given the chance to
make up for his previous indiscretions and return to the starting line
up.............
TO THE MATCH
Joe's made an instant impact with a goal from Bollywood after 5 minutes
and it was soon 2-0 after a Lowe clearance beat the advancing keeper to
put the good guys in complete charge. Ashes pulled one back as Joe's
kept control of the match, but then Boner again showed his immaturity to
cost us dearly. Ashes made it 2-2 but a tremendous clearance by Kev C
made it 3-2 at half time.......
HT 3-2
Joe's kept their shape, fought hard and seemed to have escaped with the
well deserved 3 points until 2 errors in the last 12 minutes were
punished and ended the campaign. Lowe hit the bar, Hutcheon had an
effort saved and Cowie and Lannon almost scored too. Hard luck for
Joe's but it was a great fighting performance in the main.
FT 3-4
Co-Manager's Comment
The dismissal of Steven Johns for a straight red card following an
incident with Ashes midfielder Willie Miller put an end to the chances
of progression in what turned out to be the best performance of the
season. I have no doubt Joe's would have gone through such is the way
the match was panning out. We have to be pleased with the way we played
and this gives us hope for the remaining matches of the season.

Top Joes stumbled to another defeat last night as they lost by four
goals to the impressive village outfit. Ed Miller returned to the nets
after 4 weeks away at a hair transplant clinic to replace fellow
transplantee Lannon in the nets. Andy was chosen ahead of McKinnon due
to having a slightly better haircut with the only other change from the
defeat to Ashes being Craig Bollywood replacing the nasally troubled
Ranald Mackay......
TO THE MATCH
Keiss opened the scoring after 5 minutes and doubled their lead shortly
after. Joes came into the match at this point and began to play well,
creating numerous chances and putting in a great shift. However, any
future hope in the match vanished shortly afterwards after some petulant
behaviour from the previously warned Johns resulted in a straight red
card. He left the field (with an impish grin on his face) and left Joes
to battle on gamely. Shortly after Hossack was booked for dissent.
HT 2-0
The Joe's players put in a power of work, but inevitably the 11 men of
Keiss proved stronger and added 2 more goals to put the match beyond
doubt. Any glimmer of hope faded 10 minutes before the end for the
straight red card of Co-Manager Wilson for reacting aggressively to a
shocking challenge by the Keiss player who was also sent off. At this
point Michael Cameron was extremely fortunate not to follow for getting
involved.
FT 4-0
Man of the Match - Mark Hutcheon
Co-Manager Cormack's comments - "The attitude and effort of the majority
was good in the main. Michael (Wilson) apologised for his silly red
card which occurred in the heat of the moment, but I was extremely
disappointed with the attitude of Johns and both can expect to be banned
for a number of matches. There was no need for him to have reacted in
the first place and then to have left the pitch in the manner he did
will have done him no favours for later on in the season. Panda will
also have to learn from his part in proceedings last night.
It's extremely frustrating that after three matches, although we maybe
deserve to have four points, we have none. The attitude will have to
improve significantly before the next match, we have to learn to respect
the opposition, our own team-mates and the referee and only then can we
look to go forward. It's a team game at the end of the day and it's
been duly noted who have impressed in terms of ability, attitude and
effort and who needs to take a look at themselves in the mirror.
Everyone can make mistakes, it's how we deal with them is the key. We
have the potential to have a very big squad this season so we can easily
afford to let people go, and if we continue the way we are, this is what
will happen. I, for one, will not put up with this. It's getting
embarrassing to be associated with the behaviour of some who are
spoiling it for others".

FRIENDLY - Thurso
Pentlands 5-2 Top Joes
In the first elevens friendly of the season, TJ's did not disgrace
themselves against their top flight opponents. Despite a mass player
shortage, Joes battled gamely in what turned out to be a good run out.
The mass absentee list was as follows :- Budge ruled himself out as he
had cadged a free meal from some poor unsuspecting individual, Wilson
was baby-sitting, Ranald and Boner were getting their hair done, Hossack
was away for the weekend, Les was injured, The Cowie twins were off at a
kilt fitting, Bret, Yug and Archie were at a gay students bar, Kev T and
Panda were off being roadies/groupies and Andy and Calum were still
raging from Thursday. This meant that Workshops bound Graham Lowe was
recalled to play one last time for "the only team he ever wanted to play
for". Keith Foub volunteered to make up the numbers so we lined up as
follows.
Team
Miller, McKinnon, Moodie, Lowe, Smith, Teabag, C Mackay, Cormack, Hutch,
Foubister, G Sinclair. Subs Sinclair, Sponge.
To the match
2 mins and 30 seconds on the clock and Lowe's senile dementia lead to
the opener for Pentlands. A pass back from Titchy to Ross's feet led to
him being skinned by their winger and it was soon 2-0. Lowe's old war
wound let him down and he was replaced by Pentlands player Sinclair for
the remainder of the game. His injury improved after 5 stiff vodkas
though. The heroes battled valiantly and a Foubister free kick went
straight to the opposition keeper. 3 corners were thrown into the
Pentlands box to no avail, and a series of one on ones for Keithy Foub
saw the keeper unfortunately come out on top every time. It was real
end to end stuff and it was perhaps a surprise there were no further
goals as the referee blew for half time.
Half time TP 2-0 TJ.
A change at half time saw Smith replaced by turncoat Sponge. A goal for
Joes came after some good work by Titchy saw him cross for Foub only for
the Pentlands player to get their first and score an oggy! Cormack made
way for Smith to come back on to show his class. Goals 3, 4 and 5
followed for Pentlands although the fifth was somewhat controversial as
Sinclair retrieved the ball and referee Makhouli decided he didn't need
to be back on the field for the resulting corner..... Sinclair scored a
consolation towards the end although Petrie nearly scored a screamer for
Pentlands to make it six. Teabag limped off to be replaced by Cormack
with a couple of minutes to go as the clock ran out to see Pentlands
deserved winners.
Final Score TP 5-2 TJ
Man of the match. Jamie Moodie for a solid defensive performance.
In conclusion. All in all, Joes battled gamely. It didn't help we were
so short but future friendlies should hopefully see a better turn out.
